Microsoft released System Center 2012 last week and it set the twitter feeds and blogosphere into frenzy. Is this the year that Microsoft steps forward and raises the stakes in the cloud market, aiming for cloud domination among the masses?
My initial thoughts going into 2012 was that VMware will continue to have the majority market share in the private cloud space, but that Hyper-V would begin to show up in Microsoft-centric data centers on a more frequent basis. I also believe that 2012 will be the year that independent niche players in the private cloud market would make their mark and give VMware a good run for their business – providing viable alternatives in the private cloud management space.
On the surface, Microsoft’s latest offering provides the bundling of what were previously, multiple products into one single user experience. Namely, they’re creating two licensing options that bundle eight previous System Center features into one product.
