Gartner Magic Quadrant for Cloud Management Platforms

Today is a pretty big day for us here at Embotics. As you may have seen, Gartner this week released its first-ever Magic Quadrant for Cloud Management Platforms [1]. We are thrilled to see that Embotics was positioned in the leader quadrant in Gartner’s inaugural snapshot of the CMP market. It’s certainly an exciting way to kick off the new year!

We are not surprised to see Embotics named as a leader – it’s a position that each employee here works hard every day to reinforce. Some of the largest companies across the world with the most complex hybrid cloud environments rely on us to automate provisioning and enable self-service capabilities across private, public and hybrid cloud infrastructures, and this recognition goes a long way to show us we’re doing a pretty good job at it.

Transforming How Fanatics Licenses Sports Apparel with Embotics

As server virtualization continues to mature, many organizations are moving beyond simple virtualization into public, private or hybrid cloud environments. Such environments allow authorized users to create their own virtual machines based on templates that are listed in a service cloud. However, self-service models introduce additional complexity and increase the potential for IT resources to be wasted and for costs to spiral out of control. In turn, IT departments are challenged with managing infrastructures that deploy tens of thousands of virtual machines across multiple operating systems in multiple datacenters and fulfilment centers.

Hybrid Cloud Management Survey: The Visibility Problem

A few weeks ago, we announced the results of a survey conducted by the Ponemon Institute. The survey looked at the responses of more than 600 IT leaders responsible for cloud management within their organizations and led to some interesting findings about the gap between their expectations around the value of DevOps, containers and microservices and their organizations’ current enablement capabilities. You can check out the full report here.

5 Factors to Chargeback/Showback Success

An essential component of any cloud computing implementation is costs involved in your cloud services program. And sooner or later, you’ll have to consider presenting those costs back to the departments utilizing the services as a chargeback, or at the very least, showback.

5 Steps to Implementing an Effective Cloud Management Platform

The key to implementing complex projects is to break them down into smaller, less intimidating steps – ones that can be easily focused on and dealt with one at a time. So, when it comes to embarking on a cloud management project, the same rules apply, and there are a common set of management and automation features that are required. The good news is you don’t need to tackle them all at once, but you can take small steps with each to ensure success and adoption. These include:

  • Resource Optimization
  • Lifecycle Management
  • Workflow and Automation
  • IT Costing and Chargeback
  • Self-Service Provisioning and Service Catalogs

Let’s take a look at each of these features in turn.

…You Might Need to Invest in a Cloud Management Platform

Do you remember the comedian Jeff Foxworthy? Back in the 1990s and early 2000s, he was one of the country’s most inexplicably popular and successful comedians based on his routine, “You Might Be a Redneck.” Essentially, he’d talk about some character traits or activities, and if it sounds like something you’d do, say it with me… “YOU MIGHT BE A REDNECK!”

Self-service provisioning and the food-chain

Self-service provisioning is good for everyone in the food-chain. It allows customers to do the key day-to-day administration themselves, and removes the need to raise support tickets, which makes them happier and more loyal. It also allows IT to spend more valuable time looking for new business challenges that the customer may face, rather than endlessly fulfilling new requests or doing day-to-day mundane and repetitive tasks.
