The cloud management industry has undergone a pretty radical shift in recent years. Here at Embotics, we like to think that we’ve taken a leading role in the industry in pushing cloud management platforms forward. You may recall our announcement last year when we launched the first the industry’s first truly next-generation cloud management platform – one built for automation, orchestration and governance of both traditional and new microservice-based applications while facilitating DevOps.

Today is a pretty big day for us here at Embotics. As you may have seen, Gartner this week released its first-ever Magic Quadrant for Cloud Management Platforms [1]. We are thrilled to see that Embotics was positioned in the leader quadrant in Gartner’s inaugural snapshot of the CMP market. It’s certainly an exciting way to kick off the new year!
We are not surprised to see Embotics named as a leader – it’s a position that each employee here works hard every day to reinforce. Some of the largest companies across the world with the most complex hybrid cloud environments rely on us to automate provisioning and enable self-service capabilities across private, public and hybrid cloud infrastructures, and this recognition goes a long way to show us we’re doing a pretty good job at it.

Being a cloud administrator is hard work.
And if you’re reading this, I probably don’t have to tell you that.
More and more, end users rely on computing resources and services to do their jobs effectively – which can be a challenge (not to mention a time-suck) for system administrators.

For decades, the only organizations that had true IT functions were the ones that could afford the infrastructure and manpower costs of building their own data centers – either on or off-premise. Today, a new company can buy cloud resources, like AWS, and realistically be up and running in the cloud in a single day. But the sheer proliferation of the cloud has presented a unique range of benefits and challenges. On one hand, companies are experiencing increased efficiency, cost savings, workload scalability and speed. On the other, trends like shadow IT have made it harder for organizations to track employee activities, manage cloud resources and embrace emerging technologies like DevOps, microservices and containers.

As server virtualization continues to mature, many organizations are moving beyond simple virtualization into public, private or hybrid cloud environments. Such environments allow authorized users to create their own virtual machines based on templates that are listed in a service cloud. However, self-service models introduce additional complexity and increase the potential for IT resources to be wasted and for costs to spiral out of control. In turn, IT departments are challenged with managing infrastructures that deploy tens of thousands of virtual machines across multiple operating systems in multiple datacenters and fulfilment centers.

It’s been a busy few weeks here at Embotics, as you may have noticed. We recently launched the industry’s first truly next-generation hybrid cloud management platform, ushering in the era of CMP 2.0. We partnered with the prestigious Ponemon Institute to deliver research showing that lagging DevOps and microservice enablement is costing the average enterprise a staggering $34 million per year. Heck, we even got ourselves a new website!
