Build Engineer

We are looking to expand our engineering team and aggressively broaden the Commander platform capabilities into additional leading-edge cloud computing technology areas and are looking for an exceptional Build Engineer to join our team.  This position is based in Ottawa, Ontario.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with development and QA to champion build and test automation quality
  • Debug and fix pipeline related issues
  • Design and implement pipelines to support newly developed systems
  • Monitor, diagnose, and resolve performance bottlenecks on build, deployment, and test systems
  • Develop and maintain internal tools for builds, packing, and deployment
  • Participate in design and code review


  • 3+ years of experience creating and supporting automated build pipelines for Java based web applications
  • 3+ years of experience supporting automated testing efforts
  • Working knowledge of virtualization technologies
  • Experience with common build tools:
    • Build scripts: Gradle, Ant
    • Build tools: Jenkins, Artifactory
    • Git repositories: Github / Bitbucket
    • Dependency management: Ivy, npm
    • Static code analysis: Sonarqube
  • Experience with the following is considered an asset:
    • Public cloud (AWS, Azure, GCP)
    • Kubernetes
    • Gitflow or other common branching strategies
    • Orchestration of infrastructure and software deployments using configuration tools such as Terraform, SaltStack, Puppet, Chef, or Ansible
